Become part of the Engineering research community
A research degree is a truly global qualification that provides students with the opportunity to delve deeply into engineering challenges and develop solutions for the future.
Research students develop specialist knowledge in their field and have the potential to become world experts.
As a research student, you will gain transferable skills that can be applied to a broad range of areas, including:
- The ability to conduct research
- Analysis and problem solving
- Project and time management
- Interview techniques and presentation skills
Monash provides a supportive, stimulating and professional environment. Each student conducts independent research but is also part of a research team under the guidance and supervision of experienced academics.
As a research student you will submit your research findings as a thesis, which will be examined by independent international experts. All students are encouraged to share and present their work at appropriate forums, nationally and internationally.
To get you started professional development is provided in preparing papers for publication, presentation skills and we provide travel grants for attendance at national and international conferences.
Students can be admitted directly into a PhD program. Depending on academic record and experience some students may be admitted into the Master of Engineering Science (Research) degree. Those admitted to the MEngSci(R ) can apply to transfer to the PhD degree after 12 months of study.
