Recent competitive research funding for biological engineeringIn the last funding rounds for 2008, members of the Division have been awarded three Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project grants, and is listed as co-investigator on a National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Project grant, totalling $1.25 million over the next three years. The NHMRC project, in collaboration with A/Prof Stuart Hooper (Department of Physiology, School of Biomedical Sciences) and Prof Rob Lewis (Monash Centre for Synchrotron Science) will investigate novel methods of X-Ray imaging of the neonatal respiratory system. One of the ARC projects, also partnered with A/Prof Roger Evans, Dr James Pearson and Dr Kate Denton of the Department of Physiology, will use computational image-based methods and supercomputing to analyse the blood flow of the kidney. Other ARC Discovery projects include an investigation of stem cell development in bioreactors, in collaboration with Monash Immunology and Stem Cell Laboratories (MISCL), as well as an investigation of white blood cell interactions with vessel walls in association with Prof Jaye Chin-Dusting and Dr Kevin Woollard (Baker Heart Research Institute) and Prof Scott Simon (UC Davis).
