Monitoring Systems

Competencies have been developed in design and installation of customised measuring systems to monitor the performance of track and rolling stock. Systems have been configured for continuous monitoring, or for a specific (typically short-term) task. Recently developed monitoring systems include:

• Automated, instrumented car operating in revenue service, monitoring track conditions (tracked via GPS), with the capability to remotely report in real time to the driver, or to facilitate maintenance planning activities

• Instrumented revenue car with the capability to determine ride quality index as well as track surface roughness and noise generation from wheel-rail interaction

• Solar-powered automated remote weighbridge with the capability to detect and report overloaded, partially-loaded or empty wagons
