Careers without frontiers

Imagine a world …

  • in which vehicles raise barely a whisper and emit only water vapour
  • where parks have replaced unneeded urban freeways
  • where living standards have improved dramatically, especially for the disadvantaged
  • where houses pay part of their own mortgage costs through the energy they produce
  • where forest cover is increasing, and CO2 levels are falling
  • where the effluent water leaving factories is cleaner than the water going in.

Even as you read this, engineers are working to make such a world your reality.

Engineers: building our future, today

Of all the professions, it is the engineer who has forged the greatest advances in humankind’s wellbeing over the past century. Yes, we can give medical breakthroughs some of the credit, but just think of all that the engineer has achieved in the way of clean water, removal of waste and the quality of food supplies, to name just a few.

Evidence of the work of the engineer is all around us - from health and the environment to food, medicine and aerospace - and in everything, from smart buildings to videophones, from the Internet to digital television. In fact, engineers are everywhere!
