Dilani Kahawala

Dilani Kahawala has just completed a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Engineering (2007).

Whilst completing VCE, Dilani visited a number of universities and felt Monash had an excellent Engineering department. Monash staff spoke enthusiastically about their research and teaching which further attracted Dilani to Monash.

Dilani was offered a scholarship as Dean’s Scholar in the Faculty of Engineering, which allowed her to take additional subjects and enrich her undergraduate program.

Dilani was most impressed with the resources offered at Monash.

“Throughout my undergraduate studies I found the computer resources available to Engineering students immensely helpful. The laboratories are always great for group work and there are many useful software suites available on the computers”.

In addition to the great courses offered, Dilani says one of the best things about Monash is the cosmopolitan atmosphere.

“I’ve been lucky to meet and interact with people from all over the world”.

Dilani was presented with the prestigious General Sir John Monash Award 2007 which will assist her goal of completing a PhD in theoretical physics.

And Dilani has some good advice for future students.

“Get involved in a diverse range of activities; it’s the best way to enjoy your university experience. Also carefully plan your semester because university tends to be much more intense in terms of workload that school. Being very organised makes it much easier to juggle a number of activities and helps your prioritise depending on the time of the year. Try to obtain as much industrial and research experience as you can, so that you are able to make an informed career choice at the end of your degree”.
