Credit policy
Overview of credit
The Faculty of Engineering awards credit towards degree programs for complete or incomplete tertiary studies provided that it is satisfied that the unit/s for which credit are sought are substantially the same in content, contact hours and standard of assessment as the unit/s from which exemption is sought.
Credit for near passes
Please note that under the university’s Credit policy, credit cannot be given for a near pass grade or terminating pass at another institution.
Maximum credit allowed for undergraduate coursework programs
Irrespective of what study applicants may have undertaken prior to admission, or may be permitted to take during their course under cross-institutional arrangements or under the 'permission to take work elsewhere' regulation, in order to comply with the requirements for professional recognition it is the policy of the faculty that a certain amount of work must be completed at Monash University.
Students in an undergraduate engineering degree program must complete at least 96 points, and students in a three year Bachelor of Technology program must complete at least 72 points at Monash. The only exception is that students transferring between degree programs offered within a single department of the faculty shall be eligible for such credit as the department may recommend. Credit will not be granted in respect of work completed more than 10 years prior to the application for credit.
Maximum credit allowed for postgraduate coursework programs
The Faculty of Engineering will grant credit where a candidate has completed work equivalent to or a satisfactory substitute for particular work in the candidate’s course of study to a maximum 25% of the work in the candidate’s course of study. Credit will not be granted in respect of work that has been presented towards any other award of the university or of any other educational institution.
However, a candidate who qualified for admission to a graduate certificate on the basis of attaining an average mark of 65% in two non-award units of the Faculty of Engineering may be granted full credit for the two non-award units.
A candidate for a diploma in a particular field of study who has qualified for a graduate certificate in the same field of study may be granted full credit for the work in the course of study for the graduate certificate. Credit will not be granted in respect of work completed more than 10 years before admission to candidature. |
