The Application Process
1. Expression of interest
To express an interest in undertaking a research degree contact research.student@eng.monash.edu.au or phone +61 3 9905 4635
- If you know the topic you wish to investigate we can put you in touch with the appropriate department
- Alternatively, if you wish to work on a Monash project, you can advise us of your research interests and background and we will put you in touch with the appropriate department
2. Prepare a short research proposal
As part of the application process you will submit a research proposal. This does not have to be a detailed statement of intention, rather an indication of your educational background, motivation to undertake research studies, areas of interest and, where relevant, your experience in research or employment history. This information is used to help determine an appropriate research placement.

3. Submit your application
Once we have confirmed that the infrastructure is available for your research intentions you will be invited to complete an application form.

4. Eligibility and supervision are confirmed
Applicants with a recognised H1 honours degree or a degree judged to be H1 honours equivalent, and applicants with a recognised H2A honours degree or a degree judged to be H2A honours equivalent will be considered for direct entry to the PhD.
5. Offer sent

Applicant with H2B honours or equivalent undergraduate qualification or Master of Engineering by coursework
Offer for Master of Engineering Science (Research) program sent by the faculty
Students can apply to transfer to a PhD program (with credit) after 12 months candidature. If you intend progressing to PhD your supervisor will assist in formulating a research project accordingly after commencement. |

Applicant with H1 or H2A Honours or equivalent undergraduate qualification or
Master of Engineering qualification with a research component of at least 66%. You may be eligible for a direct offer into the PhD program
Faculty approved PhD applications are forwarded to Monash Research Graduate School (MRGS) for final acceptance. MRGS send out the offer. |
