Australian Pulp and Paper Institute (APPI)
APPI provides world class technology based on training and
research for the pulp and paper industry. Since its inception in 1989, APPI has trained many engineering
and science graduates who are now in senior positions in the
pulp and paper industry. APPI is supported by the Australian Paper
Industry as well as Monash University. In the next few years, the Australian Pulp and Paper Industry will invest
over AU $3 billion. Two pulp mills, two paper machines and many major
upgrades/rebuild are underway or being designed. This massive capital influx
combined with market globalisation creates new employment opportunities for
Australian engineers and scientists in pulp and paper.
APPI provides post-graduate training, coursework and research, for
engineers and scientists in pulp, paper, printing and related industries.
APPI has an extensive short course program in pulping, papermaking and the science of
printing, run in conjunction with Appita. APPI is an integral part of the Department of Chemical Engineering at
Monash University.
APPI has two areas of research effort-
Bio-resource and Paper
Engineering as well as
Surface Engineering.
APPI staff were recently awarded a A$1.15 million dollar ARC Linkage
grant jointly funded by the Australian Research Council and the Australian
paper industry. We have
available two postdoctoral positions and four postgraduate scholarships
funded by this grant.
Teaching
APPI offers a Master of Engineering Science
course work program in pulp and paper technology
Scholarships for the APPI Masters course
are now available to start in first semester 2009. These offer $18,000 per annum, tax free, to
successful applicants.
