Scholarship Celebration 2009

The Faculty of Engineering held an event to celebrate its highest achieving new students on Thursday 5 March.

Awardees, their families and a school representative attended the function where each student and their school were formally acknowledged for their achievement. 210 people attended the event, including 65 scholarship recipients and 25 school representatives.

Deputy Dean, Professor John Sheridan congratulated the students for their fantastic results and was pleased to see so many parents and school representatives in attendance. Professor Sheridan acknowledged the great contribution of parents and teachers to the success of the scholarship winners.

Guests also heard from Tim Leach, final year Engineering/Commerce student and president of the Monash Engineering Student Society (MESS). Tim encouraged students to get involved in all that Monash has to offer. "Never again in your life will you be immersed in such a diverse and opportunity rich environment and be presented with so many intellectual, social and environmental challenges", said Tim. "Monash is a brilliant place and I promise you there is a something for everyone, but my challenge to you tonight is where will your special place be, and how are you going to make a difference?"

After formal presentations guests were invited to have supper with faculty staff and current engineering students from Monash Motorsport and Engineers Without Borders.

All students studying an engineering degree who hold a scholarship with a merit component were invited to attend the event.
