Scholarship pays tribute to Trade Commissioner25 July 2012
Craig was one of three Australians who lost their lives.
Chief Executive of Austrade Peter Grey said one of the ways in which Craig’s legacy continues is through the Austrade Craig Senger Memorial Scholarship.
“The scholarship is offered to students who have completed the first year of a double degree in Commerce/Engineering through the Monash University Engineering Leadership Program,” Mr Grey said.
“Recipients are invited to complete an internship in Austrade’s Melbourne office.”
A wreath laying ceremony was held at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta on 17 July in commemoration of Mr Senger and the Australians who lost their lives in the bombing.
“We pay tribute to Craig and remember his work in the service of Australia,” said Mr Grey.
The recipient of the 2012 scholarship, Dilshan De Silva, is scheduled to undertake an internship with Austrade from July to October this year. The scholarship will continue to be offered over the next three years.
Chair of the Monash University Engineering Foundation Dr Peter Rogers thanked Austrade for their commitment and commented on the importance of scholarships.
“These scholarships have enabled gifted undergraduate students from the Faculty of Engineering to engage in the Engineering Leadership Program at Monash – which they do in addition to the normal course curriculum,” Dr Rogers said.
“The scholarships program is seen as an attraction to study at Monash and has helped attract more talented students to Monash. It has also attracted more women into engineering. The leadership program has been assessed as among the top four such programs globally – and the only recommended program outside the USA.”
Austrade selected Monash for the scholarship because of the University’s internationalisation and campuses in Asia.
