The research experience summer scholarship

30 March 2006

The Faculty of Engineering at Monash University has established a summer scholarship program to enable talented undergraduate students to explore the world of engineering research.

More than 80 high achieving undergraduate local and international students applied for the program from a range of institutions and engineering disciplines. Scholarships were awarded based on the applicant’s academic performance, intended research topic and career plans. The Faculty welcomes the scholarship recipients, who join an active and healthy graduate school of around 300 postgraduate students.

Run for the first time on the 12th December 2005, seventeen fortunate 2005/2006 summer scholarship recipients met with the Director of Research and other academic supervisors for an induction to their research program. These summer scholarship holders then spent the next eight weeks exploring a topical problem in much greater depth than was possible within their undergraduate program, and gained research experience which will stand them in good stead when applying for postgraduate studies.

The Research Experience Summer Scholarship Program 2005/2006 was successfully completed on the 17th of February 2006, and participants were then asked to attended a half day poster presentation session where they presented their specific research to a board of departmental representatives. The three best poster presentations were elected, and these poster winners were presented with $100 book vouchers. They are:
