2 May 2006
Staff of the Faculty of Engineering joined the Dean in the Sir Alexander Stewart Conference Centre for the announcement of the winners of the inaugural Dean’s Higher Education Worker Award.
The annual award was established this year to recognise outstanding performance and dedication amongst general staff in the Faculty of Engineering and complements the recently introduced outstanding research and teaching awards for academic staff.
Professor Tam Sridhar, Dean of Engineering, commented that the faculty currently employs 136 general staff and a formal means of recognising their contribution to the continuing success of the faculty was long overdue. “Engineering relies on its general staff not only for the coordination of student services but also the management of major facilities and laboratories that are particular to the needs of a large technology based enterprise. Their support is crucial to our achievement of excellence in both teaching and research.”
The Dean’s Higher Education Worker Award 2005 went to Mike Leach, Geomechanics and Geoenvironmental Laboratory Manager for his high level of initiative and drive with respect to the planning and operational functionality of the laboratories and to Lee Ann Hilborn, Personal Assistant to the Head of the Department of Materials Engineering for her enthusiasm, reliability, dedication, courtesy and high level of service to both staff and students. The recipients will receive a certificate and cheque for $2,000 at the Faculty Awards Night to be held on 30th May.
