Engineering Open House and Alumni Dinner

18 November 2006

On Saturday, November 18, the Faculty of Engineering held its first ever faculty -wide alumni event.   Alumni and their guests were invited to visit some of the facilities in the afternoon and then to attend a dinner in the campus centre.  Around 200 people attended the dinner.

The event was an initiative of the reinvigorated Monash Engineering Foundation led by Emeritus Professor Peter Darvall who engaged the dinner audience with humorous reflections on his days as Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and later Dean of Engineering. Current Dean, Professor Tam Sridhar spoke candidly of the challenges facing a modern engineering faculty and his enthusiasm regarding developments at the interface of biotechnology and engineering where Monash leads the way.

Professor Sridhar said that the alumni function was, “An opportunity to reengage with past students and bring them up to date with Engineering at Monash. As one of our major stakeholders, alumni want to ensure that the value of their degree, their past investment is enhanced by the current achievements of the Faculty. As a Monash Alumni myself, I find a tidy concurrence between my self interest and my daytime job."
