RESEARCH INTERESTS

Dr. Lapovok's research interests include:

  • Novel properties of nano- and ultrafine grained light alloys produced by Equal Channel Angular Extrusion (ECAE);
  • Constitutive modeling of materials behaviour and superplasticity;
  • Micro- and macro models of damage mechanics in application to technological processes of deformation - forging, rolling, extrusion etc,
  • FE simulation of non-isothermal plastic flow;
  • Phenomenological theories of the fracture of metals.

Dr. Lapovok is a leader of NanoSPD Group (http://www.nanospd.org/) and several projects on processing and properties of Light Alloys by ECAE. Her original ideas resulted in design and manufacture of an unique Equal Channel Angular Extrusion machine with controlled back-pressure which has found a high valuation at the NATO workshop in 1999 and at the 2nd International Conference on Nanomaterials by SPD. Dr. Lapovok is a member of Australian Forging Group (AFG) and American TMS society. Prior joining Monash University (2004) she worked in CSIRO on several projects for forging industry and consulted the forging companies associated with AFG. She has also worked on projects on aluminium and magnesium alloys for CAST CRC.

Projects on ECAE of light alloys include:

  1. "Improvement of fatigue life in 2124 Al alloy processed by ECAE with back-pressure" (current, US AIRFORCE)
  2. "Microforming" (current, VCAMM)
  3. "Thermomechanical Processing of Aluminium and Magnesium Alloys for Superplastic Forming" (current, ARC Discovery Project, 2 PhD-projevts)
  4. "Optimisation of the Rolling - Heat Treatment Cycle in production of highly formable 6000 series alloy sheet" (current, CAST CRC, PhD-project)
  5. "Nanostructured Al alloys: SPD processing and properties" (2002, ARC Linkage International Project)
  6. "Production of a solid rod from magnesium swarf using ECAE", (2002-2003, CAST CRC)
  7. "Removal of Porosity in Continuous Cast Aluminium Alloys by ECAE", (2002, Engineering Grant, Monash University)
  8. "Commissioning and Justification of device for producing Ultrafine-Grained Metal Sheet", (2001, Engineering Grant, Monash University)
  9. "New method of definition of lower-bound ductility of materials using ECAE / ECAD", (1998-2000, CSIRO Chief Initiative Competitive Funds)
