Engineering Alloys

Since the founding of the Department of Materials Engineering at Monash, by Prof. Ian J. Polmear in 1970, the department has had an active and extensive research program into the science and engineering of metals and alloys.  The research portfolio has grown greatly over the years and now incorporates programs on the development of the engineering light metals (Aluminium, Magnesium and Titanium), now supported under the umbrella of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Design in Light Metals, thermo-mechanical processing (TMP) and corrosion.  These activities span a range of alloy systems (the light metals, Fe, and Cu based systems) and incorporate both theoretical and modeling activities as well as state-of-the-art experimental testing and characterization facilities.
