Late News - Materials Engineering Involved in Victorian Government Solar Energy InitiativeThe Victorian State Government recently announced in late March, 2007, some intitatives with regards research and development in sustainable energy. Materials Engineering is heavily involved in one of the successful consortia (the Organic Solar Consortium). The State Government will contribute $6 million to the project over three years (including Monash, CSIRO and Melbourne University), of which $2 million will come to participants in the Centre of Excellence (ACES) at Monash University across Materials Engineering and Chemistry. The chief investigators in Materials Engineering are: Udo Bach (tandem solar cells) Udo Bach These projects are developing alternative solar cells to the current silicon-based ones.
Congratulations to Nick Birbilisfor winning the "Electrochimica Acta Travel Award for Young Electrochemists" which is given by the International Society for Electrochemistry. "The Electrochimica Acta Travel Awards for Young Electrochemists are aimed at favouring the participation of young electrochemists in the ISE ANNUAL MEETINGS. The applicants must be ISE members. They must have obtained their Ph.D. not earlier than 6 years before the deadline for applications." It will be presented at the Annual ISE meeting later this year in Canada. His submission was titled "High-resolution electrochemical and microscopic characterization of localized corrosion of light alloys: Possibilities and ramifications." |
