CENTRE FOR ADVANCED MATERIALS TECHNOLOGY

The Centre for Advanced Materials Technology (CAMT, www.eng.monash.edu.au/mat/camt/) is a ready resource for industries and organisations seeking materials related expertise/access to facilities within Monash University.

Benefits of using CAMT include: Fast access to information, expertise and facilities; quick contract negotiation (usually without need for referral to the Solicitor’s Office); reliable and professional project management and tracking; easily accessible contact for project enquires and follow-up. CAMT provides an easy interface to the complete suite of Monash materials (and other) capabilities, such as:

  • Skills, advice, literature reviews and expert (legal) opinions.
  • Problem solving.
  • Product development.
  • Materials selection for aggressive environments.
  • Characterisation.
  • Failure analysis.
  • Mechanical and physical property determination.
  • Advanced processing techniques.
  • Corrosion/durability investigations.
  • Research projects (potentially tax deductible).

Examples of recent successful CAMT projects include: Aluminium window frame corrosion investigation (see Figure below); thermal analysis of a pharmaceutical product; provision of an expert opinion (polymer failure); recycled glass investigation; rubber thermo-gravimetric analysis; characterisation of a stainless steel.

polished al microstructure An example of a polished micrograph prepared for a CAMT project is shown. The aluminium alloy sample was ground and polished, ultimately with a 1µm diamond suspension. This was followed by an electrolytic etch @ 20 volts for 2 minutes. The image was taken using a X5 objective. Acknowledgement: Y. Lizama.
