Purchasing new computer hardware

The University’s Procurement Services division has established a panel of endorsed suppliers. They can, and do, block attempts to purchase equipment from other suppliers without approval. Equipment which does not meet University policies and guidelines will not be supported and may be denied connection to the network.

To streamline selection and ordering, the computer systems below have been selected from within the range available from those approved suppliers as being most likely to suit the requirements of the majority of staff and postgraduate users in Engineering. There are considerable advantages in having all computers of the same or very similar types.

To order new equipment:

All requests for new computers, notebooks or printers should be logged as a service request.

From there, it will be turned into a quote, approved and raised as a purchase order. This provides a single-point means of tracking the whole process through to the computer being set up and installed at your desk, and will give you a link that you can click on at any stage to check progress. You will still need to submit a signed paper requisition to purchasing, on which you should also mark the Job Desk job number.

When placing a request, please state which of the types listed below, or give details of what is required if it does not fit within these categories. You will need to include also:

Cost centre and fund

Name of authorising officer

Any additional requirements

The Monash-endorsed suppliers have recently changed and new models of hardware are just becoming available. This page will be updated when suitable models have been assessed and can be recommended. In the interim, please submit a request for quote, describing what you want by following the procedure above.
