After hour computer laboratories access for Engineering students
Conditions of use for swipe card access to Engineering computer labs
It is the responsibility of students using swipe cards to access faculty of Engineering computer laboratories, to ensure that the security of the premises and the safety of occupants are maintained. In particular, the following conditions must be agreed to by such authorised users and must be observed:-
- Users are to ensure that the swipe-card door is secured each time they pass through it.
- Users must not allow their staff or student identification card to be given to any other person at any time.
- Authorised users shall not admit any person into the premises at any time.
- In the event of a swipe-card being lost, you are required to register again, as your card issue number will have changed.
- The facilities are to be used in accordance to the acceptable use of IT facilities policy and standard Lab rules.
- Authorised staff/students will take all reasonable precautions to ensure that the University's Occupational Health Safety and Environmental Policy, legal and insurance requirements are complied with.
- The University's normal insurance cover applies during out of hours access. Authorised users should ensure that they comply with the conditions stated in the policies, and any queries on insurance should be referred to the university's insurance officer.
- Authorisation will cease on the 18th December 2009, after which users must re-register for continued access.
- Authorised users should note that the use of their identification card is recorded automatically, and this information is recorded for reference on a need be basis.

To test if your ID card has been registered, simply hold your student ID against the "proximity card reader" located next to the main entrance of the computer labs in building 60. If the card beeps twice, it means your card has been registered successfully.
After hours access does not start until the 9th March 2009. The after hour access will terminate on the 18th December 2008.
Failure to comply with the conditions governing the use of staff or student identification swipe-cards may result in the cancellation of the access privileges and or other disciplinary actions in accordance with the acceptable use of IT facilities policy and other university regulations. Before using these labs, students must acknowledge having read these conditions as appearing on the online registration site and agree to comply with the provisions therein.
