Welcome to the Faculty of Engineering

Orientation is the official start of semester and your studies in engineering. It provides the opportunity for you to discover more about your new learning environment, meet other students and become a part of the Faculty of Engineering community at Monash. Orientation is designed to ease your transition into university life.

Equal Opportunity (EO)

The Faculty of Engineering is committed to promoting Equal Opportunity (EO) in education and employment. The Equal Opportunity policy applies to all students, staff and activities undertaken at Monash University. In support of the policy, the Faculty aims to provide an environment free from all forms of unlawful discrimination, harassment, vilification and victimisation.

To help students prepare for their responsibilities as a student in the Faculty of Engineering learning community and as a graduate and professional engineer in the future, all new commencing students are required to complete online Equal Opportunity training upon enrolment.

In recognition of the professional development achieved, students will be formally acknowledged in writing for completion of the EO training module: 'Sexual Harassment and the Law'. Carefully read the information provided for module 2 and then complete the relevant quiz at your own pace (authcate login required).

Library

The Hargrave-Andrew Library (HAL) - building 30, Clayton, is the home library for engineering. All your information, research and learning skills resources are available here. Participating in the library orientation program will allow you to be fully prepared for the year ahead.
All new commencing students should enrol in the library orientation class "Introduction to library resources'. These sessions will help you to kickstart your university studies faster and smarter.

Library tours are also available on the half hour before the start of HAL orientation classes. Take a tour so that you know where to find resources before the rest of the crowd!

Study Skills

Students are expected to attend at least three out of the five sessions offered in the Engineering Essentials study skills program in order to be well prepared for academic study requirements. Online and print resources are available to help you develop the skills you need to succeed in your studies in engineering.

Don't forget to check the library website for details on workshops available throughout the semester as well as drop-in sessions for individual help with a learning skills adviser in the Hargrave-Andrew Library (HAL).

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

Monash University strives to provide a healthy and safe study environment for students. As well, each student at Monash University is responsible for ensuring that their own study and work practices reflect good occupational health and safety and environmental standards in order to protect their own health, safety and the environment of others.

The responsibilities of students include:
