Questions to ask
These are just some suggested questions you may wish to explore at the meeting with the project research supervisor/research team leader (or nominee):
- What is the research project about?
- What work already exists for the project?
- What can you expect to get out of your UROP project at the end of the semester?
- Are there any milestones in the project?
- What are some of the challenges in the project?
- What are some of the opportunities afforded by the project?
- Who are the people that you can expect to be working with?
- Who will you be reporting to during the duration of the project?
- What happens to the data gathered? Who owns it? Who gets to keep the data afterwards?
- What happens when a publication results from the work done in the UROP project? Who will be responsible for the whole manuscript? What will your responsibility be?
- What sort of working hours will you be expected to keep?
- Is there any preparatory work that you need to do before the project starts?
In other words, ask as many questions as you wish. Make sure you understand what you will be doing, and what expectations you have and the supervisor has.
