At Monash Engineering, we provide the highest quality technical training. But this is only the beginning of our commitment to our students.
Through the Monash Engineering Research and Industry Training (MERIT) Program, we offer our students a wide range of programs to:
- support you during your time at Monash, and
- help prepare you for life after your degree.
The MERIT Program consists of the following.
- The Mentor Scheme (see right) helps new students make the transition to Engineering studies.
- Practical Industry Placement gives you 12 weeks’ work experience during vacation time, an experience that frequently leads to graduate employment opportunities.
- Our new, optional Industry-based Learning (IBL) Program helps you find full-time work experience in industry for one or two semesters, while you take a break from your studies.
- In the Engineering Professional Seminar Series, we invite industry partners from a range of Engineering disciplines to deliver free workshops on the profession.
- Renowned as a prestigious research faculty, Monash Engineering offers extra research training while you’re studying at undergraduate level:
- The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), gives you an early opportunity to experience real life in an Engineering research environment.
- The Summer Research Program offers paid research work during the university break.
- The Leadership in Technological Environment is designed to produce the Engineering leaders of the future. The program covers all aspects of leadership and includes regular seminars from industry and research leaders.

We look after you at Monash Engineering.
New students
It’s not always easy making the transition from the school environment to tertiary study, so we designed our Mentor Scheme to give you first-rate support just when you need it most:
-
We match each of our new students with a student mentor, enrolled in a later year - you’ll find your mentor to be a fount of knowledge and experience, especially when it comes to coping with those first few tricky months.
-
And we also offer a whole range of additional back-up, including seminars, workshops and professional development. Not to mention a variety of social events to help get you into the swing of student life.
Graduating students
And we don’t forget you just when you’re leaving us. When you’re about graduate, we offer a series of workshops designed to help you make a smooth transition into the workforce. |
