Re-enrolment for level one students
Students in level one of the following courses at Clayton will
be undertaking branch selection at the end of the year and will
re-enrol after being transferred into their engineering
branches:
- Bachelor of Engineering 0032 (level one students)
- Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Engineering 0116 (level one only)
- Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Engineering 0548 (level one
only)
Branch selection process and schedule
Current level one students will need to complete a
branch
preference form (due 5 October 2007), which requires them to
indicate three preferences for their branch of engineering study
next year. These preferences will be entered into a computer program
which will match students' preferences against their academic results,
the criteria for admission to each branch and the number of places
available in each branch. The program will allocate students to
a branch of engineering. Before you re-enrol, you can find out online
to which branch you have been admitted. The date, time and url for
the branch allocation website is to be advised.
Changing your enrolment
Once you have been enrolled in your branch, you will be able to
use WES to add
and discontinue units. You should still seek course
advice for enrolment changes however you no longer need to submit
a manual unit enrolment amendment form. WES
dates for enrolment changes are located online.

Course transfer
If you want to transfer to another course next year you must re-enrol
into your current course and lodge an Application
for course transfer with the faculty managing the course. Applications
for course transfer are generally considered at the same time as
those of new applicants. Students wanting to transfer into double
degrees offered with the Faculties of Art and Design, Business and
Economics, Law and Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences should
lodge their application with these faculties by the respective application
closing date. For details of the minimum eligibility criteria
to transfer, please contact the faculty managing the course.
Discontinuing from your course
If you want to discontinue from your course you will need to complete
and lodge an Enrolment amendment form available from the Engineering Faculty Office
or online via WES. Students
who have not re-enrolled by 19 December 2007 will be discontinued
by the faculty as ‘failed to re-enrol’.
Exclusion
Students who may be liable for exclusion should undertake the
normal re-enrolment for their course. Any enrolment will be provisional
subject to the exclusion process. Hearings will be held in late
January 2008. Students who are expected to attend a hearing will
be contacted with the date and time. Please keep your address details
up to date via WES,
as students who do not respond to the Academic Progress Committee
(APC) will be excluded automatically. For more information regarding
exclusions please check the current year
Student Resource Guide.
Failure to re-enrol
If you do not complete your re-enrolment you will lose your place
in your course and will be discontinued on the student database
as ‘Discontinued 34 - failed to re-enrol’. If you wish
to re-apply for admission in 2007 you will need to apply through
Monash International
or through VTAC (if you are
a local student).
If you are receiving financial assistance from the government
or are studying on a student visa, this may be cancelled as a result
of being discontinued from your course.
Intermission
If you wish to take intermission from your studies, contact your
faculty to obtain and lodge an Application
for intermission. If you are only taking intermission for one
semester you must re-enrol for the other semester. If you are currently
on intermission you must re-enrol for next year regardless of whether
you will be returning to study in semester one or semester two 2008.
Any semester(s) granted as intermission are counted as part of the
total time limit for your course. For example, if you commenced
a four-year Bachelor of Engineering in 2006, you must complete the
program by the end of 2013. If you take a one-year period of intermission
during this time, you will still be expected to complete your program
by the end of 2013.
International students
As a general rule, international students are required to enrol
in 24 credit points each semester. There are limited grounds under
which you may enrol in less than 24 (but no less than 18) credit
points in a semester. These include:
- Student was granted advanced standing and unit availability
or course progression rules do not permit an enrolment of 24 credit
points
- Due to course structure or progression rules, student is unable
to enrol in units to a value of 24 credit points
- Student has completed a summer of winter semester unit(s) in
the semester preceding the current academic year
- Student is facing academic difficulty
- Student is facing illness or exceptional personal circumstances
(appropriate documentation must be supplied)
- Student is in their second last semester and has more than
24 credit points to course complete.
These grounds must be approved by your course adviser using a ‘Permission
to enrol in less than full-time load’ form. The form is completed
by your course adviser and submitted to the faculty for approval.
A letter confirming the outcome of the application will be sent
to your postal address or emailed to your student account. You should
keep this letter in case you are required to justify your under-enrolment
to DIAC.
Please note that the faculty is required to run regular audits
of international student enrolments. Students who are underloaded
without permission will be requested to contact the faculty immediately
to amend their enrolment.
Proxy enrolment
If you cannot attend the university in person on either re-enrolment
day, you can appoint a proxy. A proxy is someone who:
- attends and completes most of the enrolment process on your
behalf
- has your written authority to enrol
- may be a parent, relative or friend.
Your proxy must bring to re-enrolment an Authorisation
for proxy enrolment form signed by you and your proxy, plus
a list of units you wish to undertake and any other relevant instructions
for re-enrolment.
