Honours weighted averageThe Faculty of Engineering awards its degrees with honours for meritorious performance in all undergraduate four, five and six year single and double degrees. An additional honours year is not required. Engineering programs awarded with honoursDetailed below is a list of the engineering single and double degrees that may be awarded with honours. The faculty awards honours only for the engineering component of a double degree. Any queries relating to honours for the non-engineering component of a double degree should be directed to the relevant partner faculty.
* this program is no longer taking admissions. Engineering honours grades
Students achieving an honours
weighted average mark less than 65.00 are awarded a Pass (P) grade degree.
The three year Bachelor of
Technology (Computer Studies) and the Bachelor of Technology (Infrastructure
- Design, Construction and Management) are awarded with a pass grades only. A list of students graduating 'with honours' is published in the graduation booklet and the receipt of a degree 'with honours' is also published on the student's testamur. A student's individual honours grade (not the mark) is printed on the academic transcript. Calculating the honours weighted average and grade
The honours weighted
average (HWA) calculation includes a weighting for each unit. A level one
unit is weighted by a factor of one, a level two unit is weighted by a
factor of two, a level three unit is weighted by a factor of three and a
level four unit is weighted by a factor of four. Any result obtained after
repeating a unit is normally reduced by 10% before being weighted. The
formula is represented in the document linked below.
