1. Types of grievance

Academic and administrative grievances

The university has formal policies and procedures for managing complaints from students in relation to academic and administrative matters. These issues are managed within the framework of the University academic and administrative complaints and grievances policy and the procedures made pursuant to that policy:

2. Making a complaint

t is recommended that in the first instance, you should attempt to resolve your complaint with the staff member concerned. If you are unable to resolve the issue or you feel uncomfortable about approaching the staff member then you should direct your complaint to the next appropriate level as outlined below:

3. Formal resolution - submitting a grievance

If your complaint is not resolved you may submit a request to have the matter resolved by the faculty. The request must be made in writing and the matter is now considered to be a grievance. Your request should be submitted to the Faculty Grievance Officer.

Faculty grievance officer

The Faculty of Engineering has a designated grievance officer who is responsible for providing advice to students on grievance matters and who is able to act as a facilitator to resolve issues of concern.

4. Additional support and advice

The Student Rights Service has Students Rights Officers available to assist and advise students on issues relating to complaints and grievances. Postgraduate coursework and research students may also seek assistance from the Monash Postgraduate Association.
