English Language Requirements for Postgraduate Study
You can meet the English language requirements in one of the following
ways:
- English is your first language
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System - academic) -
achieving a minimum score of 6.5. A score of at least 6 is required for
each individual band and you must undertake the appropriate reading and
writing modules. Priority will be given to IELTS results
- TOEFL (American Test of English as a Foreign Language)- minimum test
score of 577 with a TWE (Test of Written English) score of 5. Scores must
be available for both TOEFL and TWE Computer-based TOEFL- achieving a
minimum score of 233 with an Essay Rating (ER) score of 5
- Successful completion of previous tertiary studies, of at least two
years duration, which require: - Formal assessment of your written work
undertaken in an English-speaking country
- Documentary evidence (approved by Monash) of recent diagnostic testing
where the English requirements specified above are met
- A letter from the relevant tertiary institution is required as
documentary evidence
Important IELTS information
According to Australian visa requirements, IELTS is now the only English
language proficiency test accepted for students in certain assessment
levels. Exceptions may apply to government or agency-sponsored students.
Students for whom IELTS is the only acceptable English language
proficiency test, under Australian government regulations, may also be
required to use an IELTS score as evidence of English language proficiency,
for entry into the university
