Monash University Engineering Foundation Board of Management

The Foundation Board of Management comprises:

  • the Vice-Chancellor and President or nominee;
  • the Dean of the Faculty, who is deputy chair of the board; and
  • up to ten members appointed by the Dean, including members of the academic staff of the Faculty.

Emeritus Professor Peter Darvall (Chair)

Currently a Director of Melbourne Water Corporation, and Chairman of the Managing Trustees for the Australian Synchrotron Beamline Program. He was formerly Dean of Engineering at Monash (1988-1994), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) (1993-2002), and Vice-Chancellor and President (2002-2003). He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.

Peter’s professional area of expertise is concrete structures. He is an Emeritus Professor of Monash University, and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws in 2005.

Professor Tam Sridhar (Deputy Chair)

Professor Tam Sridhar is a Chemical Engineer and is currently a Sir John Monash Distinguished Professor and Dean of Engineering. He obtained his PhD from Monash University and has been with Monash since 1982. He was Chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering from 1992 until 2003.

Professor Sridhar is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers and of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (UK). He served as Chairman of the Australian Branch of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and as President of the Australian Society of Rheology. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. He received the Centenary Medal from the Australian Government for services to Chemical Engineering.

Mr John Laurie

A civil engineer who spent most of his professional career in consulting engineering with Maunsell Pty Ltd, where he served as managing director and chairman. He resigned from Maunsell in late 1994 to take up the position of chairman of the Melbourne City Link Authority, the statutory body created by the Victorian Government to implement the City Link project. This body was wound up on completion of the project in 2001.

John has served as a director of the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation, ARRB Transport Research, Power Net Victoria and Austin Hospital and was on the Council of Monash University for six years until the end of 1994. He currently chairs the Steering Committee for the Eastern Water Recycling Proposal of the Victorian Government.

Mr David Pitt

Appointed as Vice-President (Finance) and CFO of Monash University in August 2005. He is also a board member of Monash IVF Pty. Ltd., Monash Southern Africa Pty. Ltd. and associated companies, Monash Commercial Pty. Ltd., Monash Health Research Precinct Pty. Ltd., Monash University Sunway Campus Malaysia and Monash University Foundation Pty. Ltd.

Prior to his appointment at Monash, David was Director of Strategic Projects, Telstra Corporation. He was also a Director of Telstra Super Pty. Ltd., Director of Telstra Holdings (Bemuda) No. 1 Limited and of 1300 Australia Pty. Ltd. Prior to this he was a director of Telecom Australia (Saudi) Ltd., QPSX Communications Ltd. and a number of other companies.

As Director of Strategic Projects for Telstra, Mr. Pitt’s corporate role was associated with major investments – domestic and global, business structuring, mergers and acquisitions and strategic analysis. He worked in a number of Telstra’s business units, including the Network and Technology Group, Commercial and Consumer Divison, Human Relations and Finance and Administration in various management and strategic capacities.

Dr Peter Rogers

Currently Managing Director, International Consultant Centre, the Asia Pacific Mobilty Data and Services arm of New York based Mercer HR Consulting. Peter was formerly International Personnel Group Manager for ICC PLC in London, a Director of ICI in Bangladesh, and a Director of London based Employment Conditions Abroad Ltd. He was one of Monash's first engineering graduates having enrolled in Monash's first year 1961 when the campus had only 250 students. He was the first secretary of MUFC and organised the first Science vs Engineering Football match in which David Williamson (later to become celebrated playwright) was first ruck for the Engineering Faculty.

Peter was awarded the first Sir Alexander Stewart Scholarship from Monash. His PhD (1974) at Monash studied the Performance of Shiftworkers controlling Continuous Processes with the experimental data gathered at ICI factories in Melbourne and Sydney. His supervisor was Prof Ron Cumming. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Personnel Management, London. He is currently a Director of Rotary Club of Melbourne.

Mr Clive Weeks

A civil engineer with over 33 years' experience in large infrastructure projects, is currently Executive Chairman of GHD Pty Ltd and has been a Director since 1992. He was previously GHD's Chief Executive Officer and earlier managed the Victorian and Northern Territory operations. As Chairman, Clive is responsible for managing key Professional Indemnity matters, risk management, shareholder interests, and leading and reporting on the performance of the Board.
